Sukreswar Foot Over Bridge, Pan Bazar, Guwahati

Client: APWD, Govt. Of Assam

Location: Sukhreswar Pan Bazar, Guwahati

Lead Contractor: Ms Young Construction

This bamboo-themed pedestrian bridge in Pan Bazar was developed for Assam PWD and designed by Design Associates (Delhi). The bamboo architectural elements were designed by architect Priyam Ballav Goswami and inspired by the cultural and architectural motifs of the historic Sukreswar Temple. The structure integrates heritage aesthetics with contemporary bamboo engineering.

Project Challenge

The bamboo‑themed pedestrian bridge at Pan Bazar had to address durability in Assam’s humid climate, structural integration of bamboo with modern materials, and the sensitive adaptation of Sukreswar Temple motifs into a contemporary design.

Our Approach

We applied protective treatments to bamboo and used hybrid engineering—combining bamboo for its cultural and aesthetic expression with steel and concrete for strength—creating a sustainable structure that balances heritage identity with modern functionality.
